Sweeping/Mopping

Hard floors (non-vacuumed) in common spaces are a "department" which greatly benefits from someone taking on as their "thing" (kind of like mowing).  It's a great contribution toward a happy, happy home, and is really nice to have dependably "covered".  On pretty much a daily basis, it's really great to have the floors swept.  While it may seem like overkill, when done that frequently, it can be rather astounding how much particulate can accumulate in such a short time.  Conversely, clean floors, while they're easy to take for granted, are also really easy to notice when neglected.

Daily sweeping is really only realistic with some pretty focused diligence.  Divided among housemates, it would be pretty easy to sweep the entrance 3-4x/wk.  That would be super duper.  If someone were to take on this task as their own, it could also be successfully divided that way.

The foyer is a high-traffic area and needs cleaned frequently.

While it doesn't look too bad at a glance, there is actually a lot of debris present upon closer inspection.

Dirt clods spread out are less obvious.

This was what was swept up from what looked like a relatively clean floor.

If not regularly swept, this debris will migrate further into the house.

On the topic of brooms...  An observation to make is the undesirable bend of a broom stored routinely on its bristles.  Much preferred is a broom with straight bristles, which is stored "business end up".  Common courtesy.  Think of the broom!

A happy broom lives bristles up.
